Young Female Hollywood Stars in the Limelight

Young Female Hollywood Stars in the Limelight

When young actors or actresses deliver a phenomenal performance, they can elevate a movie’s status to another level. There also exists a wonderful feeling of excitement when young performers bring unique qualities to an already gifted community of Hollywood stars. Over recent times, a number of actresses have bolstered their credentials magnificently.

Zendaya Coleman
With roles in Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Greatest Showman, Zendaya continues to impress global audiences. In Spider-Man, she played a loner interested in occasionally roasting those around her. In addition to these sassy moments, she provided comic relief, which made this particular Spider-Man film so successful.

In The Greatest Showman, Zendaya works as a trapeze artist in P.T. Barnum’s circus. As one might imagine, her stunts and energy had to be perfect to fulfill the role. Even in the slower moments, she had the ability to convey subtle differences between anger, disappointment, and shame.

Saoirse Ronan
She’s been branded the next Meryl Streep – just let that sink in. Back in 2009, Ronan played a 14-year-old girl who was murdered in The Lovely Bones. That is, before Saoirse Ronan even reached adulthood, she had the knowledge and ability to show a convincing amount of terror on her face.

Fast forward to 2018 and Saoirse Ronan walks away from the Golden Globes with a win for her work as Christine in Lady Bird. Again, she displays a variety of human emotions in a demanding role. The audience experiences Christine’s defiance towards her mother, warmth towards her best friend, and general angst about feeling trapped as a teenager.

Jennifer Lawrence
Simply put, there’s a loveable quality about Jennifer Lawrence. Off-screen she has a delightfully strong, goofy, and honest personality. Therefore, when the cameras start rolling, her transformation into a given character seems even more impressive. Of course, her claim to fame began with The Hunger Games in 2012. In the film, her character Katniss enters a deathly contest in place of her sister, and Lawrence received high praise for conveying desperation and fear.

Her work as Tiffany Maxwell in Silver Linings Playbook earned her an Academy Award at the age of just 22. The film dove into issues of mental illness, which allowed Lawrence to express different aspects of her talent.

If these wildly different roles weren’t impressive enough, Jennifer Lawrence also stars in Red Sparrow, which hit theaters earlier this month. She puts on an admirable Russian accent as she becomes Dominika Egorova – a prima ballerina and eventual member of Russian intelligence. Critics have already stated that the film fell below expectations, but the shining light was Jennifer Lawrence’s performance. The ability to carry a film single-handedly puts her in an elite bracket of actresses.

Shailene Woodley
After the Harry Potter series, those interested in the young adult genre often found themselves watching The Hunger Games or Divergent films. In Divergent, Woodley manages to convey the uncertainty that her character Beatrice experiences. The audience essentially watches an unnerving dystopian Chicago unfold alongside Woodley/Beatrice.

Most impressively, Shailene Woodley landed a role in the ongoing television series Big Little Lies. She continues to tap into her range of skills as an actress, but now she’s performing alongside the likes of Nicole Kidnman, Reese Witherspoon, and Laura Dern. The fact that she’s comfortable interacting and working with such experienced actresses speaks volumes about her talent.

Hopefully more young actresses will continue to break into the entertainment industry. Those currently demanding that women receive more opportunities are trailblazers, which ought to lead to some kind of positive change.
