Celebrities have an incredible level of access when it comes to finding the perfect looks—whether it’s a gown for a red-carpet event or a dress fit for a royal appearance. But even A-listers with an endless closet aren’t immune from a sartorial twinning moment. After all, it’s impossible to ensure that you’re the only one wearing a particular look to an event. (Unless you’re, say, the Duchess of Sussex, and Clare Waight Keller is creating custom Givenchy dresses for you—if only…) Personally? We love seeing how women infuse their own style into the same piece.
Scroll through for 12 of our favorite celebrity twinning moments.
Meghan Markle and Jennifer Garner
Big occasions call for showstopping dresses, and both Meghan Markle and Jennifer Garner opted for this gorgeous navy blue Roland Mouret number. Markle wore it on May 18, 2018, the day before her royal wedding, while Garner stepped out in the Mouret three months later, when she got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Abigail Spencer, and Ivanka Trump
Alessandra Rich might just have designed one of 2018’s most visible dresses: Sarah Jessica Parker paired it with white pumps at the afterparty for husband Matthew Broderick’s play The Seafarerin April 2018, and then Abigail Spencer dressed it up for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal wedding in May. Ivanka Trump added a white belt and showed off the design when she visited a steel factory with her father in July 2018.
And they’re not the only ones who love that contrasting collar: Kate Middleton posed for royal family photos at Prince Charles’ seventieth birthday in the dress too
Katy Perry and Jackie Aina
A bright yellow leopard-print Versace coat is one way to make an entrance, and both Katy Perry and Jackie Aina incorporated the garment into their looks. Perry slipped the jacket over snakeskin tights for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in March 2018, while Aina went bare-legged at the People’s Choice Awards later in November.
Ashley Benson and Nicky Hilton
This versatile Morgan Clifford leopard coat, known as the Emily, has been a celeb favorite. Pretty Little Liars star Ashley Benson threw it on when she arrived in Italy for the 2015 Milan Fashion Week. Nicky Hilton, meanwhile, stayed warm in the Emily while attending Mick Jagger’s Christmas party in London in December 2018.
Meghan Markle and Rosamund Pike
Designer Emilia Wickstead’s looks are extremely popular with royals and celebs across the pond, as evidenced by both the Duchess of Sussex and actress Rosamund Pike choosing her chic Camila dress for special occasions. Meghan Markle wore the short-sleeve A-line button-up dress in black (with a Philip Treacy hat) to the ANZAC memorial ceremony during her royal tour to Australia in October 2018 with Prince Harry, while Pike opted for the white version for a Variety party a month later.
Christina Ricci and Noomi Rapace
Women in suits are definitely having a moment. In January 2019, Christina Ricci and Noomi Rapace both attended the Dior Homme menswear show in different versions of the same suit from the fashion house.
Priyanka Chopra and Olivia Wilde
Priyanka Chopra and Olivia Wilde are both serving moments in these floral Kate Spade dresses. Chopra styled her blue version, worn front-row at the Kate Spade show during New York Fashion Week in September, with a skinny belt, strappy heels, and tiny sunglasses. Meanwhile, Wilde opted for white boots as her signature accessory.
Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen
Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen showed up to the 2017 premiere of their film, Ingrid Goes West, in the same Marc Jacobs look, right down to their shoes. But the coincidence was, in fact, totally planned. In the movie Plaza plays a character who is obsessed with Olsen’s, so the sartorial red-carpet joke makes a lot of sense.
Kate Middleton and Carey Mulligan
Two Brits, one dress. Carey Mulligan first wore Erdem’s off-the-shoulder tweed dress to an event in 2017. Kate Middleton, as she often does, had some custom changes made to the look (including a belt) before she wore it to the opening of London’s V&A Photography Center in fall 2018.
Irina Shayk and Uzo Aduba
Irina Shayk and Uzo Aduba are obviously fans of violet and the designer Isabel Marant: They walked different red carpets in the same dress, complete with dramatic sleeves. While Shayk went monochromatic all the way down to her shoes, Aduba added a corset belt to her look.
Victoria Beckham and Meghan Markle
Victoria Beckham and Meghan Markle have reportedly become good friends since Markle moved across the pond. The Duchess of Sussex chose one of Beckham’s designs for Commonwealth Day services earlier this year, while Beckham opted for a dress with the same pattern for a summer wedding in Spain.
