While 2019 has yet to see a wedding on the scale of Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra’s elaborate Indian festivities, there are still plenty of celebrities walking down the aisle and saying “I do.”
There’s already been another Jonas wedding, as Joe and Sophie Turner pulled off a surprise ceremony in Las Vegas, complete with an Elvis impersonator. The couple are also planning another, more traditional ceremony this summer—and let’s just say we’re pretty excited to see what this one brings. The surprise small wedding followed by a bigger party later might just be becoming a trend, Zoë Kravitz and her fiancé, Karl Glusman, are legally married but have plans for a French ceremony in June.
Here’s a rundown of who’s tied the knot this year—while we wait for news of weddings from engaged couples including Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, J. Lo and A-Rod, and Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney.
Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger
Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger tied the knot on June 8 at the exclusive San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California. The couple reportedly started dating last June, after Schwarzenegger’s mother, Marie Shriver, introduced the two—and by January the two had announced their engagement.
Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas
Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas pulled off a surprise wedding in Las Vegas in May after attending the Billboard Music Awards. The Game of Thrones star wore a white bridal jumpsuit as an Elvis impersonator married the couple with Ring Pops while Diplo live-streamed the ceremony on Instagram. The other Jonas Brothers, Kevin and Nick, were on hand with their respective wives, Danielle Jonas and Priyanka Chopra.
Zoë Kravitz and Karl Glusman
Karl Glusman proposed to Zoë Kravitz back in November of 2018 with a low-key proposal. “I love that it wasn’t this elaborate plan in Paris. It was at home, in sweatpants,” the actress said at the time. On May 22 that the couple is already “legally married” but still planning a traditional ceremony in France later in the year.
Gina Rodriguez and Joe LoCicero
Gina Rodriguez and Joe LoCicero tied the knot on May 6. Rodriguez wore not one but two gorgeous dresses. “May 4th, 2019 was absolute MAGIC. To my husband Joseph, I am yours forever. ❤️,” Rodriguez captioned a wedding video she shared of her and LoCicero’s special day on Instagram.
Marc Jacobs and Char Defrancesco
Gigi and Bella Hadid, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Bette Midler, and Lil’ Kim were all on hand (along with 700 other guests) to see designer Marc Jacobs marry Charly “Char” Defrancesco in New York City on April 6. “In my darkest and loneliest moment you came into my life like some giant happy baby, and made me laugh and smile,” Jacobs said to his groom in a video of the ceremony that was played during the party, according to The New York Times. “What you have given me that I’ve never had before is the dream of a happy forever. And I promise you I will never, ever float away.” (And the party favors? Oversize hoodies embroidered with a pair of otters over the phrase “Don’t float away.”)
Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre
Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre got married in a lavish ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, on April 26. According to British Vogue, Dhowre wore two different custom Vera Wang dresses while Elba opted for a bespoke suit by Ozwald Boateng. Spoiler: They both looked incredible.
Lea Michele and Zandy Reich
Lea Michele and Zandy Reich, the president of AYR clothing company, had a romantic, intimate wedding in Northern California on March 9. “We are so excited to be married and grateful to be surrounded by our friends and family,” the couple told People. “And most of all, we’re so happy to spend the rest of our lives together.”
Lauren Burnham and Arie Luyendyk Jr.
Arie Luyendyk Jr. and Lauren Burnham got married in Hawaii on January 12 after their controversial Bachelor season (during which Luyendyk first proposed to Becca Kufrin before changing his mind). Bachelor host Chris Harrison even officiated the ceremony. The couple is also expecting their first child together in this month.
