Top 5 Menswear Trends for Spring/Summer 2019

Despite the SS19 menswear fashion shows taking place months ago, the items are only now starting to appear in stores. To get you in the mood for summer, here’s a reminder of some of the hottest trends you need to look out for to up your style game this season.

Once nothing more than a staple of your dad’s holiday wardrobe, floral prints are officially fashionable again. Following on from the dad shirts that were central to Prada’s AW18 menswear collection, SS19 sees florals re imagined with softer tones and muted colorways for a more youthful aesthetic. While floral shirts remain the focal point of this trend, for a more casual urban look, considering investing in one of the short-sleeve floral tees from British menswear brand Golden Equation. Expertly blending muted florals with casual tailoring and block colors for a street wear aesthetic, they’re the ideal way to rock the floral trend this season without looking dated.

Creating a perfect blend between couture fashion and the more casual aesthetics of sportswear, short shorts were a staple of SS19 menswear catwalks, making an appearance at Louis Vuitton, Fendi, and Prada just to name a few. Proving that it’s not just women who dare to bare, thigh-high shorts are the fashion-forward way to show off your leg day gains this year. From swim shorts to relax in by the pool to tailoring, the thigh really is the limit when it comes to shorts this season. Continuing the trend of 2019 being the year of fashion revivals, the resurgence of short shorts is a clear nod to the men’s shorts that were popular during the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.

One of the most wearable color trends to emerge from the SS19 menswear shows, subtle greens are set to be a wardrobe staple whether you fall into the urban-inspired menswear tribe, or lean more towards tailoring. A stark contrast to the fluorescent color schemes that made a splash on some catwalks, subdued green shades will translate into more versatile ready-to-wear garments – with a retro sportswear vibe. Expect to see muted green shades everywhere on the high street from joggers and tracksuits to holiday essentials like swim shorts and casual shirts. Keeping the focus on pieces that are easy to mix and match, garments in these green shades are likely to last you long beyond this season and easily fit in with your current wardrobe staples for a stylish update.

There’s been no shortage of ‘90s trends being re imagined in menswear over the past few seasons with bold patterns now getting their opportunity in the limelight once more. However, this season it’s not just about wearing a bold print, but about clashing multiple patterns for one eye-catching look. Leading the revival is Versace, with baroque prints in neon shades and bold colorways that are reminiscent of some of their iconic collections from the ‘90s. Elsewhere, clashing patterns hit the runway in the form of tracksuits at Dolce & Gabbana and over sized branded patterning at Valentino. When it comes to ready-to-wear pieces and high street fashion, expect to see a nod to loud patterns and over sized prints, rather than the gaudy-chic looks showcased by designers.

Dominating the fashion scene from designers catwalks to Coachella, co-ords and twin sets are definitely having a moment this season. Youth culture’s answer to suits, there’s a twin set for every occasion from relaxed t-shirts and shorts to more formal co-ords featuring button down shirts. The key to nailing this trend is to have tops and bottoms in the exact same print or color, which is why you will see co-ords everywhere this season as this saves you the hassle of trying to find separates that will be an exact match. To rock the Gucci twin set look without the designer price tag, keep an eye on the latest offerings from brands on the high street.
