Something about British royal engagements sends onlookers into euphoria. To this day, if either Prince William or Kate Middleton sneezes, the spotlight that is the British press flashes upon them. Imagine the frenzy when Prince Harry announced his engagement to American actress Meghan Markle. Let’s take a look at their story so far!
Prince Harry proposed to Ms. Markle with diamonds salvaged from his late mother’s collection. Ms. Markle then faced relentless abuse from the British press due to her mixed racial identity (half African-American, half white) and divorcee status, both of which are unusual for someone marrying into the British royal family. Prince Harry retaliated against the British press, which sparked self-reflection among some journalists.
The couple is set to wed on May 19th 2018 at St. George’s Chapel, Winsor Castle. Then, the two will reside at Nottingham Cottage, Kensington Palace. Prince Harry and Ms. Markle will be neighbors to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Prince William and Kate Middleton).
Is a fortnight at Wimbledon on the cards after the royal wedding? The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge annually attend the distinguished tennis tournament (#TooMuchClass) in support of British athlete Andy Murray. Ms. Markle is also a fan of attending the event where it’s speculated that she became friends with the matchmaker behind her first date with Prince Harry.
