Haut’est Nail Trends

Ever since we were little, nails have been a personal beauty obligation we learned to keep up with. Being the first self-altering beauty technique that most of us were allowed to indulge in when we were too young to leave the house with makeup and our moms big hoop earrings, of course we went a little overboard with our choice in design. From the bright pink and sparkly to the wild and creative designs like the cheetah print. The nail polish stickers with the glamorous colors and patterns; the graduation from the local store bought stick on nails that last a day to the more mature acrylics and matte overlay; our nails have always been a low-key part of how we express our identity and as we go through the stages of being a woman, different trends continue to make their mark.
I was getting a full set of acrylics last night when I decided to try a different salon than the one I usually go to. I am personally going through a current nail phase in which I am obsessed with getting a color that matches my skin tone perfectly, i.e the ideal nude. My fingers are not the model ready type; more of the short and stubby look rather than the long, skinny exemplary looking fingers most of the population admires. Either way, I remember reading a quote from one of the Jenner sisters saying that their mother once told them that the nails/hands are one of the first things a guy looks at. Biting your nails or picking at the skin around it is a common compulsion among the population and that being said, I have to admit, I’ve held the disgusting habit for most of my life as well . When you think about what the member of the most famous family of the entertainment industry said about the topic, I have observed its accuracy over the past couple of days when talking to other individuals. I witness others and even myself eyeing the hands of others around us and not going to lie, those who have better looking hands and fingers come off as more attractive. Not only is it a personal hygiene thing, but it indirectly shows the type of person we are, how well we take care of ourselves, and our sense of style.
The style we choose for our nails also gives off an impression of who we are, and the same old, same old look can tend to get pretty boring. Like I said before, I love a nude color and being that my fingers are short and stubby, and that my nail beds are small and never grow long (partly because I never let them), I love getting acrylics. I love the way they transform my fingers, making them look longer and thinner. Not only does the nude color, add additional length to the look, they also match everything in my wardrobe (which is v important to me). I have been doing this style for awhile now and I love it, but I have been in dire need of a change. I looked at two of my friends nails and saw their personality show through. They both had colors that were anything but neutral. Each with a specific shape and length that the acrylics make available to customize. When I went to the salon, picked out the same color I always did, with the same length. As I went through the process, I saw the new innovations in products my other salon lacked. I went home and looked up new nail trends, being the beauty guru, I am, I was shocked I let such an important aspect of my personal style come out with so many cool trends without even noticing or more importantly, trying for that matter! For those of you who respect the art of personal care/beauty, the art of nail designs, or just like art in general and have failed to acknowledge the newest options out at the moment…. don’t worry Hun, I got you covered.
